According to a 2016 survey by Houzz Kitchen Trends, nearly 2/3 of American homeowners spent more than 3 hours in their kitchen doing things like watching TV, entertaining, eating and reading in addition to cooking and baking. This annual survey on line polled over 2,400 homeowners who are planning or recently completed a kitchen renovation project. This is what they found.
WOOD FLOORS RULE
The survey revealed that 34% of the participants chose hardwood with 12% choosing engineered wood. Ceramic and porcelain were popular in the south.
KEEP THE WALLS NEUTRAL
About 61% of renovators painted their walls one of 3 colours: grey, beige or white. Green was 10% and yellow was 8%.
STAINLESS STEEL IS HOLDING FIRM
Don’t worry that your stainless fridge is going to be a hulking outdated monster in a few years. 75% of those surveyed were going with stainless.
STORAGE IS KEY
The most valued functional aspect of a kitchen is storage. 60% valued that as their top feature.
IS GRANITE GOING OUT
Although design divas may turn up their noses at granite (“so 1990’s”), it is still the most desirable and practical choice.
